Frieda Goren first appeared in Static #1 (June 1993) and was created by Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington III & John Paul Leon (artist) as one of the titles published by Milestone Comics, an imprint of DC Comics.

Frieda Goren is a teenager of Jewish descent and resident of Dakota City. She attends Ernest Hemingway High School as a student, Frieda is friends with Rick Stone, Daisy Watkins, Larry Wade & Virgil Hawkins who is secretly the superhero 'Static'.

Frieda learned of Virgil’s secret after supervillain 'Hotstreak' (formally ex-student, Martin "Biz Money B" Scaponi) tries to kidnap her as a prize for himself. Static finds out and shows up to protect her, but he's quickly defeated. Instead of killing them both, Hotstreak leaves, Static then removes his mask, revealing his identity to her. Frieda takes him to her house to tend to his wounds as he tells her everything about what led to the fateful night at the "Big Bang". After Virgil is treated, he challenges Hotstreak to a rematch as Static again and defeats him.

From then on, Freida's friendship with Virgil grew romantic as she became his only confidant with his identity, but Freida was keeping a secret of her own. When Virgil tries to visit her to discuss his encounter with another villain named Holocaust, he discovered that she and Larry Wade, a close friend of Virgil's, were dating. Virgil gets jealous and blasts Larry with some of his powers by accident. Larry later explained to him that Frieda hid her secret because she didn't want to lose him as a friend, Virgil forgives them both and things return to normal.

Though her life was never again normal due to her connection to Static, Frieda suffered a great loss when Larry was killed by his drug suppliers from a drive-by shooting. At Larry’s funeral, she admits that she worries about Virgil when he's Static. With Losing Larry and combined with her need to always be perfect in school and her home life, causes Frieda to develop an eating disorder and she becomes anorexic. With support from her friends and family, she soon recovers.

Frieda has appeared in the New 52 Static Shock comic book series.

Milestone Forever

In another reality set twenty years into the future, Frieda married Virgil and together they had two children, a son named Larry (named after Larry Wade) and daughter Sadie (both of whom have inherited their father's electrical abilities). The couple reflect on their life, and Virgil playfully asked Frieda if she wants him to return to his role as Static. She simply smiles and tells him 'absolutely not', and the two passionately kiss.

DCAU

In the Static Shock cartoon from the DCAU, she's Virgil's friend at school and his initial crush. Though lively and popular in school, she tends to be short-tempered and impulsive, which earned her the nickname "Hurricane Frieda". She is an active participant and the driving force of the school's newspaper with a talent for journalism and leadership. Frieda never knew that Static was actually Virgil Hawkins or that his partner was Richie Foley.

Frieda Goren possesses the normal strength of a girl her age, height and build who engages in moderate regular exercise.
