Frederick Towne Mall was a mall located in Frederick, Maryland. The mall opened in 1972 on U.S. Route 40 along the "Golden Mile". It was closed in April 2013 apart from two anchor stores, Boscov's and Home Depot.

History
The mall opened in 1972 on U.S. Route 40 along the "Golden Mile". The third tenant was Gentleman's Choice.
The mall had anchor stores JCPenney, Eyerly's, Woolworth's and Montgomery Ward. It also had a Hoyts cinema.
As time went on, the area surrounding the mall became home to more low income housing, and after a series of events that earned its reputation for crime, violent crime surrounding the area of the mall and frequent fights began to break out in the mall itself, those events became well publicized in the media and locals began relocating their dollars to a safer retail district across town, near Francis Scott Key Mall.
In 1978, the completing Francis Scott Key Mall opened its doors.
The Montgomery Ward closed in 2001 to be replaced in 2004 by Home Depot.
In 2005, Gentlemen's Choice moved out. It was the last remaining original tenant.
In 2006, proposals were made to redevelop the mall into a mixed use site.
In 2008, the Hoyts Cinemas 10 was closed after a man was stabbed to death inside. The mall and the area around it got a reputation for crime, as the previous year a woman was attacked while exiting the Bon-Ton department store. Because of this, Frederick residents relocated their dollars to the safer side of town, near the Francis Scott Key Mall.
In 2009, a local paper revealed plans changed about redeveloping the mall and they're not going to do anything until the place collapses or falls down permanently.
In November 2010, it was announced that the Bon-Ton store and their furniture gallery would be closing within the next few months. They closed in January 2011, leaving the interior of the mall without an anchor store.
When John's Hallmark store closed in April 2013, it was the last store to leave the interior of the mall. The two anchor stores, Boscov's and The Home Depot, located at either end remained.
Since 2015, the land has been planned for redevelopment.
In 2016, work started on a redevelopment called Frederick Towne Center. Boscov’s and Home Depot will be kept and the mall in between demolished. The new site plan includes a Walmart of size 155,000-square-foot.
In September 2016, Walmart cancelled their redevelopment.
Shortly afterwards, the owner of the property has considered selling the mall, but as of October 2016, no tenant has expressed interest of buying space.
On November 23, 2016, plans are now set to auction the site between December 6th to 8th with a starting bid of 2.5 million. .
