Max Gamer: I Am a Superhero!, How We Built Our Dream Practice: Innovative Ideas for Building Yours

Frank W. Gaskill (born January 11, 1969) is an American psychologist and author who specializes in Asperger syndrome, effective parenting, and how technology and children can interface safely and successfully. With David A. Verhaagen, Gaskill co-founded a private psychology practice in Charlotte, NC called Southeast Psychological Services. It later became known as Southeast Psych. Steven Walfish, president of the Division of Independent Practice for the American Psychological Association, noted in an interview with the Charlotte Observer that Gaskill's practice is "the most creative, innovative and best-run practices in the United States."

Gaskill is the co-author, with Ryan Kelly of a graphic novel about Asperger’s. In addition to having a comic based on Asperger's, he is also the host of an online video series dedicated to promoting the idea that Asperger's is a more highly evolved brain. This show is called, "The Dr. G Aspie Show."

Education and experience

Gaskill received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Psychology and School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to founding Southeast Psych, he worked at The Devereux Foundation in Devon, Pennsylvania, serving as their Primary Therapist and Senior Research Psychologist for the Institute for Clinical Training and Research (ICTR).

Publications and presentations

Gaskill is the co-author of Max Gamer, a graphic novel about Asperger’s, which focuses on strengths giving Asperger children the resilience and confidence they need to rise to their potential. He is also a contributing author to the Travis Langley Psychology and Pop Culture Series including chapters in Star Wars Psychology, The Walking Dead Psychology, and Star Trek Psychology. With David A. Verhaagen, Gaskill is also the co-author of How We Built Our Dream Practice: Innovative Ideas for Building Yours. Influenced by their core values of FIRE (Fun, Innovation, Relationship, and Excellence), Gaskill and David A. Verhaagen and describe their experiences of creating a private practice of more than 30 clinicians, all with full clinical caseloads, working completely outside of managed care. Gaskill and David A. Verhaagen created A Dream Practice website to help professionals build practices that exceed their wildest dreams. Most recently he has been a panelist at Comicon San Diego for his work with Max Gamer, an Asperger's focused graphic novel. NBC Charlotte covered a newstory on his trip to San Diego with his Aspie Superhero. His work has been featured in USA Today, NPR, and newspapers around the country. In addition, Gaskill has published research on changes in ability and achievement scores over time, and the impact on children classified as learning disabled.

Gaskill gives approximately 15 presentations/conferences per year across the southeast covering topics such as Asperger’s and “E-parenting.”
