Dorsa was born and raised in San Jose, California, the second of four sons born to Italian immigrants, Joseph and Mary Dorsa. Along with his younger brothers Sam and Anthony (Antonino), Frank started the Eggo food company. They later sold this company in 1966 to the Kellogg Company.

He married Evelyn Mary Denevan, a native of Idaho. He died in Saratoga, California, aged 88.
