Selection process

On 6 December, Bruno Berberes, the Head of Delegation for France for the tenth time, confirmed the French participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 to eurovision-fr.net.

The choice of the artist was internal, just like in the three previous years. The French public broadcasting corporation was still interested in carrying out an open and televised Eurovision selection for the 2012 Contest. A national final in 2011 was also rumoured.

Amaury Vassili was confirmed as the French representative on February 4. His song "Sognu" was the second French Eurovision entry to be sung in Corsican, after Mama Corsica in 1993.

At Eurovision

France automatically qualified for the final on 14 May 2011, as part of the "Big Five". Amaury Vassili performed 11th on the night, and obtained 15th place with 82 points, despite being a bookmarker's favourite for winning along with Azerbaijan, United Kingdom and Ireland. Belgium and Greece awarded their maximum 12 points to France in the Final.
