Françoise Henry Biographie Franoise Henry

Françoise Henry (June 1902 – 10 February 1982) was a scholar of early Irish art. She studied archaeology and art history at the École du Louvre with Henri Hubert. She worked for University College Dublin (UCD) from 1934 to 1974. Henry was born in Paris, and brought up in Limousin. She first came to Ireland in 1926 while starting a thesis for the Ecole du Louvre on Irish medieval carving. While at UCD, she founded the Department of History of European Painting in 1965, and was head until she retired in 1974.
