The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) is the trade association for Florida’s 34 public power communities. FMEA represents the unified interests of their members through government relations, communications, news and information, and education and training.

Contents

Based in Tallahassee, FMEA began in 1942 in response to WWII fuel shortages. Together FMEA’s member utilities now serve 3 million Floridians- and are the third largest source of power in the state. These utilities are community-owned and locally managed. FMEA’s membership categories, along with the 34 municipal electric utility members, also include associate member companies, affiliates, and public agencies.

    Member cities’ interests on state and federal issues are represented by FMEA’s legislative team. FMEA also works with the American Public Power Association (APPA) on these issues.

    Communications, News and Information

    FMEA provides its members with access to news resources, industry statistics, legislative updates, and safety and technical information.

    Education and Training

    FMEA offers educational training programs, workshops, and online courses to its members.

    Energy Connections Conference

    The event delivers information to FMEA members about steps they can take to improve their daily operations. The event features workshops on transmission and distribution, customer connections, safety, and lineworker training. A trade show is open to vendors.

    Florida Lineman Competition

    This event brings together utility lineman teams from across the state to compete against one another.

    FMEA-FMPA Annual Conference

    Held in partnership with The Florida Municipal Power Agency, the Conference features presentations by industry professionals, workshops, discussions, and more. The conference is designed for utility and city managers and directors, and policy makers from all of Florida’s utilities.

    Legislative Rally

    During Florida’s legislative session to discuss legislative proposals affecting public power communities.
