Based in Tallahassee, FMEA began in 1942 in response to WWII fuel shortages. Together FMEA’s member utilities now serve 3 million Floridians- and are the third largest source of power in the state. These utilities are community-owned and locally managed. FMEA’s membership categories, along with the 34 municipal electric utility members, also include associate member companies, affiliates, and public agencies.
