Five acre school

Five Acre School is a private school in the Agnew-Carlsborg Township in Washington State. It is owned by Autumn and Brian Walsh. The School was founded in 1994 by Bill and Juanita Jevne. Five Acre School is made up of five classrooms: The Primary Class (pre-school), the Discovery Class (kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade), The Explorer Class (3rd, 4th and 5th grade) and the Adventure Class (6th, 7th and 8th grade) which was created in 2012 but disbanded in 2015. 6th grade used to be included in the Explorer class before the inception of the Adventure Class. The school utilizes math textbooks from the University of Chicago. The school is very focused on nutrition and the outdoors. Every Wednesday the students would go on an all day hike in the woods and beaches around the school. There are also restrictions on lunches the students can bring. Students have to bring at least one fruit and one vegetable, they must bring one food item that is composed of protein and whatever else the students might bring must be organic and low in sugar. The annual tuition cost is $7,600.

Adventure Class

In the first year of the Adventure Class (2012) it had only six students, no classroom of its own and no name. The students were tasked with creating a name for the class. Each student came up with a name and then they all voted on which one was best. The winning name was submitted by a student named Luke Lindstrom, the name was Adventure Class. Some other name suggestions were: Wonder Class from Charlotte Hertel, Voyager Class from Zachary Baird and Spirit Class from Raven Sharpe. The Adventure Class was going to have its own classroom specially made for it, but the idea was scrapped. From 2013 to 2015 the Adventure Class operated out of a mobile storage trailer in the back lot of the school. The class was disbanded after the 2014-15 school year due to most Five Acre students choosing to attend Sequim Middle School or Olympic Peninsula Academy after 5th grade.

Soundwaves

Five Acre School is known for its marimba band called Soundwaves. The band performs songs written by Walt Hampton at various events and festivals in Clallam County. The band is directed by Rosie Sharpe.
