The firenewt first appeared in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).
The firenewt appeared in the second edition for the Forgotten Realms setting in the first Monstrous Compendium Forgotten Realms Appendix (1989), and was reprinted in Monstrous Compendium Annual Volume Three (1996). The firenewt was further detailed in Dragon #257 (March 1999) in "The Ecologies of the Firenewt & Giant Strider: Hammer & Anvil".
The firenewt appeared for third edition in Monsters of Faerûn (2001), and as a player character race in Serpent Kingdoms (2004).
Description
Firenewts are carnivores who prefer to dine on the flesh of humans and other humanoids, though they will also eat herd animals.
