In 2009, Solmi was awarded by the Guggenheim Foundation of New York with the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship in the category of Video & Audio. He is currently a visiting professor at the Yale University School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut.

Solmi's multi-media installations consist of video, painting, drawing, and mechanical sculpture. Characterized by bright colors and new media (such as 3D animation, video gaming and kinetic technology), Solmi's satirical aesthetic portrays a dystopian vision of our present-day society.
