The Centre for Fashion Studies at Stockholm University was founded in 2006. In January 2008 a PhD Programme was introduced.

What is Fashion Studies?
Is fashion a code, a message, sumptuarism or a protocol? What is the difference between costume, dress and fashion? These are some of the questions investigated within Fashion Studies at Stockholm University. Fashion Studies examining fashion history, social functions, theory and aesthetics. Fashion analyzed and theorized from an interdisciplinary perspective including aesthetic objects, cultural phenomenon, industrial systems and identity marker. Education at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level offers a varied and multifaceted input to various aspects of fashion.
