History

From its creation in 1945 until 1963 it was only seven miles long extending from US-290 to an unnamed oil field. In 1963, it was extended west to Waller County line. In 1964, it extended more west to FM-362. In 1965, it extended from another point on FM-362 to FM-331 in Burleigh. In 1970, the road was eventually extended to its present location, replacing a section of FM 331. With the extension of FM 529 to Bellville, this route has become one of the first legs of the Houston to Austin bicycle rides, including the MS150. There is competition on this road between the large number of cyclist on these days and local farmers and ranchers using the road.

Route description

The road starts at US 290 just outside the Houston city limits and travels west through rural Waller County to Bellville in Austin County.
