Route description
FM 1044 begins in central New Braunfels, at an intersection with the northbound frontage road of IH 35 at Exit #185. While it is generally north–south in direction, it is signed as an east–west route. The route's eastern terminus is at FM 78 east of Marion.
History
A previous route with the designation FM 1044 existed in Knox County from 1948 to 1953. That mileage was transferred to FM 266.
The current FM 1044 designation was established in 1953, connecting US 81 (now the IH 35 freeway) to FM 78.
