Fariba ʿAlasvand was born in Iran in 1967, and is a female religious authority of Shiite Islam.

She is a researcher and a member of the Scientific Board of the Centre for Studies and Research for Women in Qom, Iran, which was founded as conservative competition to President Khatami’s center on Women and Participation.
ʿAlasvand is also a member of the Socio-Cultural Board of Women of Iran, which functions under the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution.
ʿAlasvand studied Islamic jurisprudence, philosophy and theology, as well as interpretations of Nahj al-Balagha, for 22 years. She holds a PhD in women’s issues. Alasvand taught Islamic jurisprudence in the seminaries of Masjed Soleiman from 1986 to 1990 and since has been teaching at Iran's largest women's seminary Jamiat al-Zahra in Qom.
She has written articles on CEDAW as well as several books on gender and Islam: Women and equal rights, Criticism and study of CEDAW, Women in balance between their rights and duties, Women in the Prophet’s life, Management of life operating with religion.
