The song failed to enter the UK Top 40, peaking just outside at #42. It stayed on the chart for three weeks. Due to the disappointing charting of the song, CBS/Columbia Records insisted that the follow-up, "Whispering Your Name", was re-recorded and remixed to create a more 'commercial' sound.
A promotional video was filmed for the single.
The single's B-Side is "Ode to Boy", which was taken from the Essex album. The song is a re-recording of Moyet's song, which had originally been performed by Yazoo. The American version of the CD single featured the bonus track "It Won't Be Long (Acoustic)" which is an acoustic version of a song from Moyet's previous album Hoodoo. The single's artwork of Moyet's face on a postage stamp is related to the artwork theme of the Essex album.
