Fabrique

Fabrique was Fashion's 1982 second album. It was composed over 18 months, starting while the band were still based in the Midlands. Before moving to London, the band went to various locations to write and demo the tracks, one being 'The Lodge', home of the Enid, a very strange but productive experience. Then they traveled to Cologne after hooking up with Zeus B. Held. This was where the band, technology and producer came together. At this time MIDI was not available but the guys at the studio were well in tune with what was needed. Here the 1st single 'Move on' was pretty much completed and decided on. From here the band and Zeus moved to the outskirts of Paris for 6 months to complete the recording of the album in a fabulous residential studio.

The mixing of Fabrique took place at Utopia Studios, Primrose Hill, London. Over quite a lengthy period the album was constructed, along with various dub and 12" dance mixes. This was also the time that De met Tim Palmer and went aside to create a few mixes of their own. The album included the following UK hit singles: "Streetplayer (Mechanik)" which reached No. 46 in April 1982 and "Love Shadow", which made No. 51 in August of the same year. The album itself made #10 in the charts, spending 16 weeks on the top 100. The track "Whitestuff" was featured in the television show Miami Vice's two-hour season 2 opener, "Prodigal Son" and "You Only Left Your Picture", in another episode.

The album was re-released with additional material in 2004 as The Height Of Fashion.
