History

FXOpen was founded in 2003 as an educational centre of technical analysis in Egypt.

In 2005, the company launched a brokerage services. In 2006, the company introduced Micro accounts and Shari’a compliant accounts.

In 2009, FXOpen developed its own bridge technology that provided retail traders with an access to the ECN market via the MetaTrader platform. Subsequently it also provided ECN PAMM accounts.

In December 2011, the company moved its registered head office to Auckland.

In 2013, FXOpen launched STP accounts. At that point the company reached $100 billion in monthly trading volume over its ECN platform.

In 2014, FXOpen launched Crypto accounts and introduced new financial instruments such as Bitcoins, Litecoins, Namecoins, and Peercoins.

In August 2014, FXOpen NZ Limited stopped issuing derivatives to retail customers and the company was deregistered from the financial services provider register. In July 2015, New Zealand revoking its registration from the Financial Dispute Resolution Scheme. Since 2015, FXOpen LP Limited (New Zealand) a limited partnership, provides trading technology platform to wholesale customers.

In 2015, the broker launched CFDs (Indices, Crude Oil, Natural Gas) on ECN accounts.

Operations

FXOpen offers an ECN-integrated MT4 trading platform, compatible with algorithmic trading. It enables users to apply various trading robots, known as expert advisors.

FXOpen provides traders with proprietary designed One Click Trading Level2 Plugin software (OCTL). The tool was released in February 2013 and is regarded as the Level2 application update optimizing the order execution process in the MT4 platform.

The company developed FXOpen Trader for Android — an application for Forex trading via the mobile devices that offers real-time Forex data, including pricing and charts.

Regulatory information

FXOpen is made up of a number of companies registered in a number of different jurisdictions and operating under the same brand name.

FXOpen AU Pty Ltd, based in Sydney, is licensed and regulated by ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) since July 2012.

FXOpen Ltd, based in London, is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in the United Kingdom since March 2013.

FXOpen Company Russia (Russian: ООО «ОТКРЫТЫЙ ФОРЭКС»), based in Moscow, is FXOpen official agent in Russia. Its general director, Yelena Isayeva, is a permanent member of the Presidium of the Advisory Council of the Budget and Financial Markets Committee of Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The company is also a member of the Financial Commission, an industry self-regulatory organization that provides a third party dispute resolution service to the retail Forex industry.

The company has used sponsorship to promote itself and these have included:

  • Helped to organise and promote the FXOpen Path of Ascension tournament in 2010 and similar eSports championships. FXOpen sponsored its own StarCraft II professional team in 2010-2013. FXOpen sponsored the StarCraft II championship winning team in the 1st Hong Kong e-Sports Tournament.
  • Motorsports activities, in particular, drifting.
  • Regional Forex championships in the framework of its ForexCup project.
