Ezzedine Salim (Arabic: ناحية عز الدين سليم‎‎) is an Iraqi subdistrict located in Basra Governorate. It was named after Ezzedine Salim President of the Governing Council of Iraq who was born in the subdistrict . Its capital is the town of Huwair, total area is roughly 135 km2. Ezzedine Salim is rich with water sources, flanked by Euphrates from the south side and marshes from the north east and north west. Total population is 67,500 inhabitants, the majority of them arabs Shi'a Muslims. Many of them work in agriculture, main crops are wheat, barely, and tomatoes, In addition to Agricultural activities associated with marshes such as fishing, buffalo breeding and harvesting of reeds. During the era of Saddam Hussein, Ezzedine Salim subdistrict was suppressed severely where 183 a men have been executed for political reasons in addition to the draining of the surrounding marshes.

Huwair town

Huwair town is a seat of the Ezzedine Salim subdistrict. Situated on the bank of Euphrates ,85 km north of Basra. Total population is 67,500. Huwair is an industrial town containing more than 2,000 workshop and timber-yard produces doors and furniture.

West Qurana oil fields phase 2

West Qurana oil fields phase 2 is a mega an oilfield holds 13 billion barrel of estimated reserves located in Ezzedine Salim subdistrict. It was explored by Soviet firms in 1973,but a development works had been postponed to 2009, a real production began in late 2013 with 120.000 barrels per day.The oilfield is exploited by consortium led by Russian company Lukoil that holds 56.25% stake, Statoil holds 18.75% stake, and Iraqi state-owned South Oil Company which holds 25%.
