Expressway S8 or express road S8 (in Polish droga ekspresowa S8) is major road in Poland which, when completed, will run along the route Wrocław – Łódź – Warsaw – Białystok. The whole road is planned to be about 565 km (351 mi) long. Originally the road was to continue on to the border with Lithuania but in 2009 the plans have been changed, and currently the S61 will branch off S8 and go to the border. S8 section from Warsaw to S61 has been planned to become part of Via Baltica.

History of construction
In May 2015, 402.7 km (250 mi) of the expressway was completed. The existing sections are:
S8 in Warsaw
S8 is going to run through Warsaw and be part of its network of bypass roads. As of 2012, two sections were completed in Warsaw. The first runs from Konotopa (junction with A2) to Powązkowska street and is 10.1 km (6.3 mi) long. Construction started in 2008 and was finished in December 2010. The second section runs from Modlińska to Marki and is 7.1 km (4.4 mi) long. Its construction started in 2008 and it was finished in June 2012.
The contract to build the section immediately south of Warsaw was signed in April 2013, with completion planned in 32 months. The contract involves construction of 11,5 km of expressway between interchanges Opacz (S2) and Janki. This part of the expressway opened to traffic in July 2015
The contract to reconstruct the 5 km long section between Powązkowska and Modlińska interchanges, which includes the bridge over the river Vistula, was signed on July 28, 2013, with completion planned for October, 2015.
