An American version called Survivor, started in 2000.

Survivor sweden 8 intro expedition robinson
Format

The name alludes to both Robinson Crusoe and The Swiss Family Robinson, two stories featuring people marooned by shipwrecks.

Sixteen contestants are put into a survival situation and compete in a variety of physical challenges. Early in each season two teams compete but later on the teams are merged and the competitions become individual. At the end of each show one contestant is eliminated from the show by the others in a secret "island council" ballot.
Ownership

Planet 24 was owned by Charlie Parsons and Bob Geldof. Their company Castaway Television Productions retained the rights to the concept when they sold Planet 24 in 1999.
Popularity
The final episode of season four was viewed by 4,045,000 people out of a total population of 8.8 million in Sweden. The series returned from 2009 to 2012, now on TV4, hosted by Linda Isacsson in 2009 and later Paolo Roberto. The show moved to Sjuan in 2015 with Linda Lindorff taking over as presenter.
