Design

Project architect Tony Kettle along with Scottish artist Karen Forbes, were inspired by French sculptor Auguste Rodin's The Kiss, Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed, and Tatlin's Tower., to design a commercial tower representing marriage. The design reflects the sculptural forms which twist around one another in an embrace, or two ribbons twisting around each other. Each floor is rotated 3° relative to the preceding story, totalling 135°. The design of the tower design recognises, indeed, celebrates the speed and energy of urban life in Moscow. It makes a statement of innovation amid the many historical landmarks, yet avoiding doing harm to the historic aesthetic.

Construction of the tower began in 2011, and was completed in late 2014.

Nominations

Evolution Tower was nominated as a finalist for 'Best Tall Building in Europe' by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). A member of the CTBUH jury responsible for selecting the finalists, Anthony Wood was quoted as saying: "The world has seen an increasing number of twisting towers in the last decade or so, but Evolution Tower takes the record for the most extreme twist."

Evolution Tower is the second place runner-up in Emporis Skyscraper Award 2015. It was recognized by the award jury for its expressive design.
