Live social media slideshows

Founded in London in 2012 by CTO Ollie Harridge and CEO Dan Strang, EventsTag is a browser-based live display platform primarily intended for use at events and venues. Using social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Vine, the platform captures and collates the social media activity surrounding a specific event, using a pre-determined hashtag. All the images and posts are displayed live in a customizable animated slideshow.

The company has offices in the UK and U.S. but operate worldwide.

How It Works

A user will create a slideshow using the online service and can design and customize their slideshow directly. The user then chooses a hashtag and the social networks from which they’d like to collect social posts. Using each social network’s API, EventsTag then collect hashtagged posts and display them live in animated slideshows at the client’s event.

Features

Within the EventsTag product, there are a number of packages and features available including a free trial option, a party package, a premium package, and a professional package. The premium and professional package offer additional custom features including more integrations, on-site printing, facial recognition, analytics reporting, a shareable hashtag gallery, moderation options, live social media hubs, email integration, and more.

Investors

In April 2013, EventsTag was one of 17 start-up companies selected by Wayra, Telefonica S.A.’s global start-up accelerator and received more than $50,000, mentoring and office space for nine months. Since then they have received two rounds of funding:

  • In May 2014, Mercia Fund Management (MFM) Ltd. invested £150,000 ($223,000) in funding.
  • In March 2015, Mercia invested a further £1 million ($1.48 million) into the company.
  • Press

In May 2015, EventsTag garnered attention from the media after launching a new service for the elderly care community as part its existing software. To celebrate the launch, the company offered a free installation to ten care homes across the country.

EventsTag encouraged friends and family members to post messages and photos through their personal social media accounts using a specific hashtag assigned to the care home. These messages and images were then displayed on a screen in the care home, allowing the residents to feel more involved and connected to their loved ones, without having to figure out how to use the technology themselves.

The Holly House Care Home in Bush Park, Enfield, is the first care home to benefit from free installation of the software.
