Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Evamarie Hey-Hawkins is a German inorganic chemist and professor at Leipzig University. She is chair of the EU-COST action Smart Inorganic Polymers (SIPs).

Biography
Evamarie Hey-Hawkins has been a Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Leipzig University, Germany, since 1993. She received her diploma (1982) and doctoral degree (1983) at the University of Marburg, Germany. After stays at the University of Sussex, UK (with a Liebig Grant of the Fonds of the Chemical Industry, VCI, 1984/85), the University of Western Australia (also Liebig Grant, 1985/86) and the ANU, Canberra, Australia (funded with a research grant from the DFG (the German Research Council), 1986/87), she returned to Germany and completed her habilitation (in Marburg, 1988). From 1988-1990 she was a Research Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany. She was awarded a Heisenberg Grant from the DFG (1990-94), Visiting Professorships at Pamukkale University, Turkey (by TÜBITAK), the Université de Rennes 1, France (2007), and Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (2008, 2009), and has received a Visiting Erskine Fellowship, University of Canterbury, New Zealand (2007) and an ANU Fellowship (Canberra, Australia, 2009). In 2013, she was awarded the degree of “Distinguished Woman in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” by IUPAC. In 2015, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ) jointly honoured her with the Elhuyar-Goldschmidt Lecture Award, and in 2016 she is the recipient of the Costin Nenitzescu-Rudolf Criegee Lecture Award, awarded jointly by the GDCh and the Romanian Academy of Sciences. In 2014, Prof. Hey-Hawkins was awarded an honorary doctoral degree (Dr. h.c.) by Babeş-Bolyai University, Romania and in May 2016, she has received her second honorary doctoral degree (Dr. h.c.) from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia. In June 2016, the Romanian Chemical Society (SChR) honoured her with the Costin Neniţescu Medal.
Research
Prof. Hey-Hawkins is presently heading a group of about 30 PhD, MSc and BSc students and postdocs. 69 PhD students have already graduated from her group. Her scientific interests are manifold and comprise inorganic chemistry/organometallic chemistry, organophosphorus chemistry, biologically active boron compounds, heterometallic transition metal complexes and catalysis. She has authored more than 430 publications in refereed journals.

Prof. Hey-Hawkins is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and a member of several Editorial Boards (Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem., Chemistry Central Journal, Inorganics, Biochemical and Biophysical Journal of Neutron Therapy & Cancer Treatments) and the International Advisory Board of ChemPlusChem. From 2008 to 2013, she has been the Chair of the EU-COST Action CM0802 “European Phosphorus Sciences Network” (PhoSciNet) and since October 2013, she is chairing a new COST Action on Smart Inorganic Polymers (SIPs). Since 2007, she has been the Speaker of the Graduate School “Building with Molecules and Nano-objects” (BuildMoNa). Since January this year, she is also a member of the board of the German Chemical Society (GDCh).
