Cabeza Candela was born in Los Palacios y Villafranca. Coached by Gonzalo Lopez and Martin Vilar. Parents are Manuel Cabeza (tennis coach) and Estrella Candela; sister is Ana (training to be an aeronautic engineer). Began playing tennis at age 4 with father and sister. Favorite surface is clay. She started playing tennis aged 7. Best tennis memory is playing with her family. Speaks Spanish and English. Tennis idol is Monica Seles. Likes movies, reading and spending time with family and friends. Favorite actress is Angelina Jolie. Goal is to try and always play her best tennis.

Estrella Cabeza Candela had a break out year in 2013. She broke into the top 100 for the first time at age 26 by reaching no. 95 on 13 May 2013. Later that summer, Cabeza Candela played in her first main draw of a Grand Slam at Wimbledon. She lost in the first round to Caroline Wozniacki 6–0, 6–2. In early July, Cabeza Candela reached her farthest result in a WTA tournament by reaching the semifinals of Internazionali Femminili di Palermo losing to the Italian, Roberta Vinci, in three sets.
