Profiles

The Technical School Raggio is an educational institution Argentinian of dependent half level of the government of the City of Buenos Aires. It finds in Avenue of the Libertador 8635, in the neighbourhood of Núñez. Situated beside the General avenue Paz, that forms the limit with the province of Buenos Aires.

This is the only technical school inside the city of Buenos Aires that did not belong to the National Council of Technical Education (CONET), national organism that nucleaba the industrial schools between 1959 and 1994.

History

The Technical School Raggio was a work designed and directed by the civil engineers Emilio Seitún and Andrés T. Raggio, brother of Rómulo Raggio, the mentor of the construction and donation of the building. The original building consisted of two pavilions Lorenzo Raggio" for men and María Celle of Raggio" for Misses, these names were used in honour to the parents of the brothers Raggio. The engineer Andrés Raggio had to his charge the project and the direction of the works inaugurated on 8 December 1924, with the presence of the president of the nation Marcelo Torcuato of Alvear , the intendant of the city of Buenos Aires Carlos Noel and other personalities. Jointly with the two pavilions, the project had green spaces for areas of expansion and recreation.

His original name was School of Arts and Jobs, with the purpose to form technicians and artisans. Some specialitys remained in the past, like mechanics of aviation, herrería artistic or feminine craftsmanship.

With reason of the expansion of the Saint General square Martín in the neighbourhood of Retreat, the municipalidad disassembled the Argentinian Pavilion between 1932 and 1934. One of the sculptures, the one who symbolises The Argentinian Republic, that integrated the Argentinian Pavilion presented in the Universal Exhibition of Paris (1889) where celebrated with that sample The Centenary of the French Revolution, was moved to the Technical School Raggio. The Term of office of the City of Buenos Aires declared of educational interest the beneplácito by the 90 years of the foundation of the Technical Schools Raggio to celebrate on 8 December of the 2014. The Resolution, approved on 30 October 2014 in the enclosure of sessions gave place to a commemoration that took place in the Golden Living room of the Term of office porteña.

The building

His romance arches characterise to the building like neoclásico. It was posed in two pavilions with the names of the marriage Raggio, "María Celle" (for the students) and "Lorenzo Raggio" (for the men) which worked in shape separated as it was common then. The feminine pavilion was demolished in 1960 to unify the Av. General Paz with the Avenue Lugones . The school was donada to the Municipalidad of the City of Buenos Aires. His pose architectural open results new, valorizando the green spaces for areas of expansion and recreational.

The Ing. Andrés Raggio had to his charge the project and the direction of the works inaugurated on 8 December 1924 and the importance that assigned him to the education in that period is expressed by the presence in this act of the President of the Nation Dr. Marcelo T. Of Alvear, his lady manacles Mrs. Regina Pacini, the Intendant of the City of Buenos Aires Gentleman Martín Noel, his secretaries Dr. Emilio Ravignani and Don Antonio Barrier Nicholson and the President of the Honourable Council Deliberante Mr. Lloracio Helmet among others.

Museum

Inside the school finds the museum tecno-educational Lorenzo Raggio, whose aim is the recovery, restoration and cataloging of photographic material, artistic, technician, etc. found in the institution.

There they find the planes of masonry of the Theatre Columbus , that is a group of more than 30 planes of the year 1892 sealed by the study of the architect Víctor Meano. These documents, that were a lot of years in the school library, were used by ex educational of the school Federico Federicci and Cayetano Donato, those who worked in the construction and in the maintenance of the scenography of the Theatre Columbus.
