Personal background

Nicanor emigrates from Spain in 1949, at the age of five. He moves with his parents to New York to later establish in La Havana. He studies Fine Arts at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” and Philosophy and Arts in the University of La Havana. He moves to Paris in his early twenties to later settle down in Madrid.

Career

  • 1959 collaborations in the Cuban newspapers "Prensa libre" and "Bohemia" under the pseudonym of Kike.
  • 1960 beginning of work at the animation department of ICAIC - Instuto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos with artists and designers like Jesús de Armas, Tulio Raggi, Eduardo Muñoz-Bachs, Modesto García, Hernán Henríquez or Harry Read.
  • Creation of the "Picaflor" production group with Jorge Carruana and Wichy R. Nogueras.
  • Collaboration with producer Serge Danot and scenographer Rafael Esteve in the series "Manège Enchanté" or "The Magic Roundabout".
  • 1967-1987 film director for Televisión Española.
  • Director of La 2 (Spain) channel of Televisión Española (formerly called "La segunda cadena"), launching programs like Documentos TV, La Edad de Oro, (Paloma Chamoro) Metropolis, Si yo fuera Presidente; Follow Me - (Fernando G. Tola e Carmen Maura), Con las Manos en la Masa (Elena Santonja) or En Forma (Eva Nasarre).
