Energy consumption measurement is done in varying units.

In List of countries by energy consumption per capita, the data is given in kilogrammes of oil equivalent per year [kgoe/a], and gigajoules per year, and in watts, as average equivalent power.

  • 1000 kgoe = 42 GJ
  • W per capita (1 GJ/a = 31.7 W) (multiply by 8.766 to get kWh/year)

    • Megawatt hours per year can be written as Watt:

    1 MW·h/yr = 1 000 kWh/yr = 1 000 000 Wh/(365.25·24)h = 114.077116 Watt
