Company history

The company was founded in 1988, but the origins date back to 1974 when Dr. Frederick Buechel, an orthopaedic surgeon, and Dr. Michael Pappas, a mechanical engineer, first collaborated on joint replacement systems. The doctors are best known in the industry for the design of the low contact stress (LCS) mobile bearing knee replacement system.
