Empresarial University of Costa Rica, also named Business University of Costa Rica (Spanish: Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica, Abbr: UNEM), is a private university located in the suburb of Zapote, in Montealegre, in the capital city of San José, Costa Rica. The university is regionally accredited by ministry of public education and approved by the National Council of Higher Education (CONESUP) (Spanish: Consejo Nacional de Educación Superior). The university operates international undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States, Canada, Australia and South East Asia.

History

The university was founded in 1992 as an international graduate school in affiliation with the University of San José. On In November 5, 1997, it is recognized as a university of higher education by the National Council of Higher Education Private University (CONESUP) at session No. 336-97.

The university is consecutively listed in the UNESCO International Association of Universities Directory of Higher Education and the International Handbook of Universities as Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica.

All private universities in Costa Rica are autonomous once the National Council of Higher Education also known as CONESUP approve their operations. All institutions regulate themselves.
