The Emporia State University School of Business is a public business school located on the main campus of the Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. The ESU School of Business was founded in 1868 and currently has more than 30 faculty members and approximately 800 students.

Student organizations and programs

There are seven student organizations for School of Business students to be involved in, several of which include fraternities or sororities.

  • Koch Center for Leadership and Ethics

    The Koch Center for Leadership and Ethics, located in the School of Business, is a center made up of classes that focuses on communication, ethics, and entrepreneurial management. The Center was funded through initial grants of $750,000 from the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation and Koch Industries, as well as three School of Business alumni and Wichita-based Koch employees: David Robertson, president and chief operating officer, Dale Gibbens, senior vice president, human resources and public sector, and Kim Penner, president, Koch Pipeline Company, L.P.

    Small Business Development Center

    Business plan assistance, Financial projection development, Cash flow analysis, Marketing plan development, Human Resources, Sources of capital and financing, Inventory control procedures, Product costs analysis and pricing, Advertising strategies, and Sales techniques are some of the guidance offered.

    School of Business Mentor Program

    The program lets students learn from experienced professionals while preparing for life after college.

    AACSB Accreditation

    The School of Business received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in April 2002. In April, 2012, the ESU School of Business maintained its AACSB accreditation.

    Notable alumni

  • William Coffin Coleman – founder of Coleman Company. Taught school at Ottawa University for a year before serving as principal of Blue Rapids schools for a year. Coleman also served as mayor of Wichita in 1923 and 1924.
