Emily V. Gordon (born in 1979) is an American writer, producer, and podcast host. Gordon is best known for co-creating the live show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail and its TV counterpart for Comedy Central. She has written for TV (The Carmichael Show), movies (The Big Sick), a book (Super You), and for several online and print publications.

Early life
Gordon was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She received a BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2001 and an MS/EdS in couples and family counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2003.
Career
Gordon was a practicing therapist from 2004 to 2009, working in North Carolina; Chicago, Illinois (where she moved in 2005); and Brooklyn, New York (where she moved in 2007).
By the time she moved to Los Angeles in 2010, Gordon had fully left the field of therapy to pursue a career as a freelance writer, and has written for Bust magazine; Dame magazine; the now-defunct Lemondrop; AOL; xoJane; The Daily Beast; Huffington Post; The Atlantic; Premiere; GQ; The FW; TV.com; Mashable; Videogum; Rookie; Hello Giggles; Lenny; Refinery 29; and The New York Times. In addition she writes an advice column on Tumblr. Her first book, SuperYou: Release Your Inner Superhero, a tongue-in-cheek self-improvement guide, was released in 2015.
Gordon has written two webseries aimed at teenagers, called Power Up and ExploreD, at Disney.com. She wrote for the second season of The Carmichael Show on NBC, writing an episode called "New Neighbors". She also cowrote and co-executive produced a screenplay with Kumail Nanjiani called The Big Sick that was filmed in 2016, directed by Michael Showalter and produced by Judd Apatow.
In addition to writing, Gordon also books and produces comedy. In 2010, she created a weekly live show with cohosts Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani called The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, located in the back of Meltdown Comics. In 2011 she was asked by Chris Hardwick, who wanted to turn the space into a curated comedy venue, to act as program director. She served as program director of the Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics from 2011 to 2012. In 2013 Comedy Central ordered a pilot for The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, and then greenlit the series in 2014. As of 2016 there have been three seasons of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail on Comedy Central, co-executive produced by Gordon, and the live show still happens every week.
