In 1983, he traveled to the United States with his father and sister. He and his sister began school at Junior High School #56 located at Madison Street in lower Manhattan. In 1985, he started work evenings at a Latin restaurant called the Castillo de Jagua where his teacher, Santiago Olivo, pianist of the quintet Group Alfa 5, was choreographer. Elvin Polanco was later employed by Casino Records and Records under Pedro Alvarez Cepero and Gilberto Reyes Muente. Elvin Polanco acquired a lot of knowledge of the market of international music in the years he worked at Casino Records until they closed their doors when its president, Gilberto Reyes Muente, died. In the year 1995, Elvin was introduced to Amalio Santos, president of the Rincon Musical Corner, located at 49th Street and Tenth Ave in Lower Manhattan. Out of this came the first program of bachata called "Cuerdas al Aire - El Bachatazo de la noche" for WKDM 1380 AM with outstanding production by Pedro Felix. After a year with Freddy Tavera and Miguel Cardona Manuel Alejandro Ruiz, known as Boy Wonder, CEO of Chosen Few Emerald Entertainment, Inc, he discovered the beautiful Gelena Solano. They formed the break-through television program called "Underground Video" where they would interview artists such as Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, Ivy Queen, Hector Delgado Roman (formerly "Hector El Father"), Tito "El Bambino", & Baby Rasta.
