The Russian House: Architecture & Interiors

Ella Krasner is an internationally recognised humanitarian, charitable fundraiser and author. With a particular interest in children’s charities and the Arts, she has used her influence to fundraise for charitable organisations in America, Asia and Europe. Mrs Krasner is a prominent supporter of the US-based children’s charity, Amend; a member of The Council of the Serpentine Museum in London; and a Patron of Liberatum, the international arts organisation. She also fundraises for Cinema for Peace and the Red Cross, for which she has chaired three events including the Red Cross Ball. In 2005, her book The Russian House: Architecture & Interiors, was published by Scriptum Editions.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Ella attended high school in the now independent Georgia and university in America. She is married to the Russian American businessman, Alex Krasner, and together they have three children.

Charitable work

Ella Krasner is a prominent supporter of the charitable children's organisation, AMEND, working to prevent child traffic injuries in Africa. Road traffic incidents are one of the leading causes of death amongst children aged five and over in developing nations. Amend is developing and implementing effective programs in Kenya and Ghana to stem this crisis.

In December 2010 she co-hosted with Clive Owen a fundraising event to benefit Amend at The Electric Cinema in London. She has also been instrumental in coordinating Amend's annual charity luncheon held during the Cannes Film Festival at the Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc, working with sponsors including David Morris Jewellers, Thanda Resorts and WiJet Private Air.

During the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, in partnership with Cinema for Peace, she co-hosted a dinner for Oscar winning actor Sean Penn's charity, Haiti Relief Organisation, which raised over half a million US dollars in two hours. Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Campbell, Jane Fonda, Ryan Gosling and Uma Thurman attended the event which was sponsored by Maybach and Armani.

Mrs Krasner is also a supporter of the Red Cross. She has chaired three events for the charity - two fashion shows and the British Red Cross London Ball.

The Krasner Fund / The BFI

The Krasner Fund for the BFI is a programme of the best of British film alongside an initiative established by Ella Krasner in partnership with the BFI to support treasures in the BFI collections. It is the aim of The Krasner Fund for the BFI Programme to showcase the best of British film through screenings and ‘in conversation’ events, with the money from the Fund going towards the BFI collections – the biggest archive of film and television in the world. The Krasner Fund for the BFI plays a vital role in helping us to ensure that everyone – from the 5 year old in primary school through to the emerging and established film-maker – has access to film treasures, many of which will be available to the people of Britain for the first time.

Global Gift Gala Award - 2012

Ella Krasner was awarded an award at The Noble Gift Gala by Eva Longoria. The award was to honour her as an individual that had impacted on the world through her exceptional philanthropic work. Ella received the Global Gift Award for Philanthropy.

Arts sponsorship

In July 2004, Ella and her husband Alex Krasner co-sponsored with David Khalili the "Heaven On Earth: Art From Islamic Lands" exhibition at the Hermitage Rooms in London's Somerset House.

She is a member of the Council of the Serpentine Gallery in London.

She is also a patron to the cultural diplomacy body, Liberatum, which organizes festivals around the world with leading figures from the worlds of art, fashion, dance, film and literature. In November 2010, Ella hosted a Liberatum dinner in London for Nobel Prize–winning writer Sir VS Naipaul, with guests including Zaha Hadid, Martin Amis, Sir Richard Eyre, Julia Peyton-Jones, Sir Mark Jones and Sir Evelyn and Lady de Rothschild.

Book

In 2005 Ella Krasner was the author, with photographs by Andreas von Einsiedel, of The Russian House: Architecture & Interiors published by Scriptum Editions.
