Controversy

When Manley was interviewed by a journalist from the Westside Gazette, he answered that he was running for young people. He believes that young people aren't properly represented in government and politics. His candidacy, is a direct challenge to Article 2 of the United States Constitution, which states "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." Manley states that not only is this provision discriminatory, but in order for it to be an effective tool to disqualify him from candidacy, he must be challenged in court. This was upheld by his attorneys, and certified by the Florida State Constitution. According to Manley at a speech in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he wants the United States Supreme Court to change or remove the age restriction from the Constitution or lower the age to eighteen from thirty-five. He states as follows:

"I'm running because I want other young people to know that you can accomplish your dreams without age being a barrier. Rather it's becoming a doctor, lawyer, athlete, star, or President of the United States, you can do it."

Activism

Manley has done several notable things. He spoke beside Vice-president Joe Biden at a Lauderdale campaign event for Charlie Crist's 2014 campaign, traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with Congressman Alcee Hastings, as well as many other speaking proposals. Manley, at an early and nonqualifying age, has gained the attention of dozens of news sources, including but not limited to, Miami New Times, The Westside Gazette, and the Independent Political report. Manley is running as an independent, but is affiliated with both, the Democratic and Green Parties.

Stances

Manley is left-wing hanging independent. He identifies himself as a "Democratic Socialist". His campaign has announced the five pillars of his campaign. These include climate change, economical injustice, social justice, environmental protection, and youth rights. Manley has said that if President, he would 'build the State of Palestine to a strong Muslim Republic.' He strongly opposes Israel, and US involvement in the Middle East. Manley states that he loves the ideas of Bernie Sanders and doesn't want corporate candidates. Therefore, his campaign hasn't accepted any corporate donations. Elijah Manley is a strong supporter of Pro-LGBT initiatives and policies.

Personal life

Manley resides with his mother and younger siblings in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He is currently in his junior year attending Fort Lauderdale High School.

Announcement & 2016 campaign

Manley stated that he was sitting on the bus when he decided that he was interested in running for the Presidency. Two days later, he had the opportunity to meet Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein and discussed his interest in the Presidential election.
