"Elfenlied" ("Elf Song") is a poem written in German by Eduard Mörike that was adapted into a Lied by Hugo Wolf.

Notes

^1 The German word Elf also means "eleven", as in "wohl um Elf" ("just at eleven").
^2 Silpelit is a character from "Der letzte König von Orplid" ("The last King of Orplid"), an interlude in Mörike's novel "Maler Nolten" ("Painter Nolten").

The poem is a direct inspiration for Elfen Lied, a Japanese manga—and concurrently anime—series created by Lynn Okamoto. A sung version of "Elfenlied" appears in the manga and anime.
