Born in Uzbekistan (then part of the Soviet Union) in 1974, Nebolsin started studying piano at early age in his native country. He later moved to Madrid to study with Dimitri Bashkirov at the Queen Sofía College of Music.

Nebolsin's international career started after his triumph at the XI Santander International Piano Competition. In 2005 Eldar Nebolsin won the First Prize at the Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition.
