EIS History

After World War II ended in 1945, Thailand sees an influx of foreign missionary groups from the United States of America. In 1946, American's Adventist missionaries have founded a missionary training institution whereby its very first clases were once held in a temporary building made out of a tjatched bamboo and a metal roof.

In 1957, the school was then known as 'Adventist English School' and the properties in the area called 'Ekamai' were purchased and consolidated to expand the campus. Until the 1970s, school's enrollments were mainly pupils of American missionaries and foreign expats who live in Bangkok. At that time, the school became Thailand's first educational institution to use English as a medium of instruction.

Under the reign of Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun in 1992, the Thai Ministry of Education has officially recognized the 'Adventist English School' as the international school due to its multi-nationalities enrollment. The school's name was changed to Ekamai International School and it became a popular choice among Thai and foreign nationals to seek enrollment while various selective English placement examinations were used. Thus, Ekamai International School became the first international school in Bangkok as well as the oldest continuously-operating international school in Thailand.

The school received an official accredition from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1998.
