Edward mortimer on national identity


Edward Mortimer CMG (born 22 December 1943 in Burford, Oxfordshire) was until January 2007 the Director of Communications in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General. He is an author, journalist, and fellow of All Souls College Oxford.

Mortimer is now Senior Vice President of The Salzburg Global Seminar, and is a member of the Advisory Council of Independent Diplomat. He serves as an Advisory Board member for the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation. Before joining the United Nations he was a columnist and leader writer for the Financial Times.

Mortimer was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 2010 New Year Honours.

Family

The son of Robert Mortimer, Bishop of Exeter, Edward Mortimer is married to the British artist Elizabeth Mortimer.
