Regents' Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipient Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, III
Edmund O. Schweitzer III (born 1947, Evanston, Illinois) is an electrical engineer, inventor, and founder of Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL). He obtained a B.S. and M.S. from Purdue University and a Ph.D. from Washington State University, where his doctoral thesis was on digital protective relays. He is an IEEE Fellow. From 1977 to 1979 he was faculty of electrical engineering at Ohio University. Schweitzer's father, Edmund O. Schweitzer Jr., founded E. O. Schweitzer Manufacturing, now a division of SEL. Along with his wife, Beatriz, Schweitzer has donated millions of dollars to various charity and city organizations.
He was awarded IEEE Medal in Power Engineering in 2012.
In 2014 Ed Schweitzer was recognized by WSU Board of Regents as the 45th Distinguished Alumnus.
