History

Originally a solo act the band is named after its founder member Eden James. Originally from Brisbane, Australia James began writing and performing solo material in 2000. In March 2003 he released his debut Album/Single "Never Setting Sun" on Collision records. The single, Never Setting Sun, stole the number one spot from Robbie Williams in the Greek Top 40. The success of the single in both Greece and Australia contributed to James winning the ‘Best New Talent’ award at Australia’s Sunnie Awards. Never Setting Sun launched him as an International artist, and his performances in Japan, United Kingdom, France, Norway, Greece, Switzerland, Poland and Australia solidified his fanbase.

In late 2004 Eden James relocated to London, England in a bid to increase his profile and be closer to the musical epicentre.

In October 2007 Eden James released Electric Charge, a digital release by the band’s own label Eden James Entertainment. Eden co-produced the album with Antti Uusimaki (Brian Eno, Cornershop) whose avant-garde style complemented Eden's pop appreciation. James also toured in Japan and Greece in support of Electric Charge.

Following the release of Electric Charge, Eden James began to evolve into a band as opposed to a solo act. Prior to that point James was backed by various session musicians for live shows. The first permanent member Simon Hall (guitar) joined on guitar in 2007. James and Hall then recruited the remaining members. The English line-up of James, Hall, Duffy, Neumann and Lousley was solidified in September 2008.

In 2008 the band were awarded ‘Best International Artist’ at Australia’s MUSICOZ Awards, and also picked up two British award nominations at the Indy Music Awards for ‘Best Rock Act’ and ‘Best International Act’. The band played the Awards launch ceremony alongside punk legends the Buzzcocks who closed the Awards night. In November 2008 a track from Electric Charge Best of the years was released on the Best of the Brits compilation.

The first half of 2009 saw the band play various club gigs throughout London. In March Eden James filmed a video for We’re meant to Rock and Roll directed by Jonas Molina. Split between studio footage and footage Filmed in and around London’s Denmark Street, the video was released on 14 April. In May Eden James were confirmed to play at the Rockwave 09 Festival in Athens, Greece, supporting The Killers, Duffy and Tricky.

In 2011 Eden James relocated to New York, New York to further his experience in the territory of North America.

Today Eden James is making his way in the New York music scene playing various live shows throughout the city. Keeping a consistent sound by hand picking his band members, top New York musicians - Dave Le Blanc (drums), Brian Karp (Bass), Segev Sunny Harosh (Lead Guitar), and Matthew Watanabe (Keys).

Sound

James, the band's main songwriter, cites David Bowie, Lou Reed and U2 as primary influences. The band's sound modulates between modern indie and classic rock influences. Vocally, James has been likened to Richard Ashcroft, Jim Morrison and David Bowie.
