Eden Brewery St Andrews

Eden Brewery St Andrews is a specialist independent microbrewery based in Guardbridge, Scotland, about 3 miles (5 km) north-west of St Andrews. It is located on a 38-acre site owned by the University of St Andrews. Brewing began in July 2012 and the brewery is "on track to lift turnover from £500,000 in its first full year to around £2 million in 2014".

History

The site of the brewery is on the banks of the Eden Estuary and has had a long history of brewing and distilling. For most of the 19th century, the Haig Family operated a whisky distillery here. In 1860, they started distilling whisky elsewhere in Fife, and turned the site into a brewery and paper mill.The brewery closed in 1882. The last brewery in St Andrews closed soon after, in 1902. The paper mill closed in 2008.

Beers

Eden Brewery St Andrews produce bottled beers such as Traditional Ales, IPA and Craft Lagers. Many of these beers are also for sale in casks.

Craft Range

  • 19th Brew (3.9% vol) Golden Beer, with a hint of citrus and slightly hoppy character.
  • Clock Brew (4.3 % vol.) A classic Scottish red ale with a hint of pepperiness and hops.
  • St Andrews Blonde (3.8%vol) flavour profile spanning apricot to pineapple and grapefruit.
  • Seggie Porter (5.2%vol) Has layers of flavours with roasted, coffee, liquorice and hints of chocolate.
  • 1882 Premium Pils Lager (4.7%vol) 1882 has a refreshing classic crisp bitter finish.
  • Oak Wood Matured Range

  • Rum Barrel (6.7%vol) Light, fruity and tropical, with candied rum flavours.
  • Whisky Barrel (7.4%vol) hop aroma with flavours of honey and toasted oak spice.
  • Bourbon Barrel (6.2%vol) A rich, smooth and malty aroma with hints of chocolate malt and a layer of sweet vanilla.
  • Aristeuein Range

  • Shipwreck IPA (6.2vol) A rich, smooth and malty aroma with hints of chocolate malt and a layer of sweet vanilla.
  • Islay Oak Aged (7.2vol) Rich, smooth, malty and sweet. With a full body.
  • Oak Aged Porter (5.2%vol) Caramel, toffee and chocolate bitterness interacting to provide a well balanced and smooth flavour.
