Yagin next faced former title challenger Mark Hominick on April 21, 2012 at UFC 145. He won the fight via split decision in a bloody slugfest which paid off for the two fighters as their performance earned Fight of the Night honors.

Yagin was expected to face Dennis Siver on September 1, 2012 at UFC 151. However, after UFC 151 was cancelled, the bout was rescheduled and was set to take place on December 8, 2012 at UFC on Fox 5. Then on November 13, it was announced that Yagin had been forced out of the bout due to a sparring injury that landed him in the hospital with swelling around his brain, and was replaced by Nam Phan.

Yagin was cleared to return to competition on June 24, 2013. Yagin had hoped to return to the octagon by the end of 2013. Surprisingly, Yagin was released of his contract due to his medical condition sustained in his planned bout with Dennis Siver. The move went quietly unnoticed, despite Yagin's manager providing evidences of being medically cleared to compete under contract.

Post-UFC career

Yagin faced Diego Saraiva at Tachi Palace Fights 19: Throwback Thursday on June 19, 2014. Despite coming out strong in the first round, Yagin would lose the bout via unanimous decision.

In his second post-UFC fight, Yagin faced Bellator veteran Akop Stepanyan at FEFoMP: Russian's MMA Supercup on December 20, 2014. He lost the bout via third round KO.
