He has worked with Muhal Richard Abrams, Lester Bowie, Art Blakey, Benny Carter, Chico Freeman, Craig Harris, and Dizzy Gillespie. He has used several variants of his name on CDs including: E.J. Allen, Eddie E.J. Allen, and E.J. "Eddie" Allen.
