The school was formed in 2000 after the reduction of the area's three schools to two larger schools (the previous schools being Dane Valley High School, Heathfield High School and Westlands High School). The school gained academy status in September 2012

In an Ofsted inspection in 2015 the report classified the school as 'Good with outstanding features'. The report rated both 'leadership and management' and student 'behaviour and welfare' as Outstanding. The inspectors reported; "There is an exceptional ethos and climate for learning within the school"

Eaton Bank Academy is also the only secondary school in Congleton to be included in the "Top 500 Secondary Schools in the United Kingdom" and also has a high exam pass rate.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities including sport, performing arts and engineering. Eaton Bank supports the local "Schools for Gambia" charity, and organises regular visits for its sixth form students to the Gambia to support the chairty.

Buildings and Facilities

In 2015 the main 3 storey block of the school was renovated with a new building facade, doors and windows. The development also included a new double height reception area.

In 2015 the school completed the installation of a new Multi-Use Games area.

The Sixth Form students have their own stand-alone Sixth Form Block which was opened in 2013. The Sixth Form block has study areas, common room and coffee shop for exclusive use of Sixth Form students.
