The College was inspected by Ofsted in May 2012 and was awarded the highest result of "Outstanding"—an accolade which has only been achieved by one other General Further Education College nationally in the same year and just six GFE Colleges in the South East since inspection began in 1993.

In 2011 Eastleigh College was awarded Outstanding by Ofsted for its College House facility, along with the Customer Service Excellence Standard. The College is also recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the Best Places to Work in the Public/Third Sector in 2011 and received star recognition for great work practices and employee care by the workplace engagement specialists Best Companies in 2012.

The college is committed to working in partnership with a range of organisations, groups and employers in the community. Through its extensive partnership work, the college works with over 1,100 employers in the region, contributing to both the economic development of the local community and the regional agenda for wealth creation and employability.

With over 9,000 apprentices in learning, the college was named the third largest college provider of adult Apprenticeships in England in 2014/15 (in terms of funding).

Campus

The College has recently undergone a £12 million redevelopment project, which includes a new training kitchen and professional restaurant, East Avenue, for Catering students; new facilities for Art, Design & Media; new training salons and a commercial Hair & Beauty Salon, Avenue, for Hair and Beauty students; and a new Advanced Technology Centre with facilities for Computer Science, Construction and Engineering.

The College gym and fitness studio have also been refurbished, and are open to staff and students to use. The fitness studio offers a variety of lunchtime and evening activities, including spinning, circuits and table tennis.

Student life

Students are encouraged to take a full and active role in College and are invited to attend College communities. Each course have nominated representatives who attend meetings every term to discuss College issues and developments. Two student governors represent the students at management level. All students are entitled to join the National Union of Students (NUS). The NUS is one of the largest organisations in the world, representing the interest of around 5 million students throughout the United Kingdom. There are also given the opportunity to take a variety of courses such as Personal Presentation, Personal Safety and First Aid.

The College also offers a variety of trips and social events throughout the year. The fitness room contains both cardio-vascular and resistance equipment, and the College runs team leagues in a number of sports.

Teaching

The lecturers who teach at the college have spent many years working in their specialist industries, ensuring the advice they are able to pass on to students is reflective of the sector. The College regularly strives to meet with employers to discuss industry needs, and to tailor course content to ensure students leave College experienced and ready for work.

In 2016 the Hospitality and Catering department won a Pearson’s Teaching award for best FE team of the year, for their "exceptional and inspirational approach to teaching". Selected from thousands of nominations across the country, the team is one of just 55 Silver awards given nationally.
