East India Comedy is a group of Indian stand-up comedians that performs comedy shows, organizes comedy workshops, corporate events and scripts movie and television shows. The group claims to be India's busiest comedy company with a record 130 shows across the country in the calendar year 2013. East India Comedy maintains a YouTube channel that shows their comedy stints and satires on topics like politics, religion and the Indian film industry. Much of their reputation was initiated through their online presence. The group hosts India’s version of the Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies), the Ghanta Awards.

History

East India Comedy was founded by Sorabh Pant in 2012 along with other comedians.

Performers

The group consists of seven full-time performers and hires other comedians, cinematographers and editors as freelancers on project basis. The full-time stand up comedians are:

  • Sorabh Pant: Sorabh Pant is one of India's most successful comedians, having done over 250 shows in over 17 cities. He has been rated amongst India's top 10 stand-up comedians by The Times of India. In a poll by IBN Live in March 2012, he was listed No. 1 in the 30 most interesting Twitter users in India.
  • Sapan Verma: Sapan is one of the founding members of EIC and has done over 300 shows in the last three years.
  • Sahil Shah: Sahil is regarded as "one of the most promising names on the comedy circuit". Sahil Shah is a renowned Indian professional Comedian, who rose to popularity as one of the founding individuals from the prestigious “East India Comedy” (EIC) troupe. Known for his standup, he’s performed at the incredible Comedy Store and been found in urban communities from Bangalore to Dubai. He appeared in the YouTube arrangement “The Ad Show” and has shown up on “UR Fired” and “The Front Row”.
  • Early Years

    Sahil Shah was born on 8 January 1991 in Mumbai. His mother is Meenal Shah and father, Vinit Shah, a urologist; specializes in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. He has one brother named Saagar Shah.

    Sahil was educated at Jai Hind College and BD Somani International School. He also attended St. Mary’s ICSE, Mazgaon, Mumbai, India.

    Prior to fame, Sahil created a Twitter account and opened with his inaugural tweet reading “chaiwala” in 2010. Sahil considers himself an outcast in his family of doctors and says ” My Life is a Punchline”.

    In 2010, Sahil was additionally cast in the motion picture “Guzaarish”; which he considers as a trademark in his acting Career. He has been in a number of shows, such as Channel V ‘UR Fired’ and ‘The Front Row’ on Star World.

Apart from comedy clubs and sold out auditoriums, Sahil has performed in multiple colleges across India.

    Sahil has given a TEDx talk on 18 September 2015. The title of his message is “Are Your Parents Happy with Your Job?”; explaining that innovation comes naturally when you love your job. He also talked about his passion transcended into a hobby and ultimately into a career which he built upon asking himself many questions and re-modelling the silliest and stupidest experience into jokes.
