East Coast Derby is the name given to football matches that involves Kelantan FA and Terengganu FA. The derby started since the 80's and known for the intense atmosphere by the fans.

History

Kelantan FA was founded in 1946 as Kelantan Amateur Football Association (Malay: Persatuan Bola Sepak Amatur Kelantan). In 1986, the former chief minister of Kelantan state, Datuk Haji Ahmad Rastom Haji Ahmad Maher was appointed as the president.

Terengganu FA was founded in 1972 as Terengganu Football Association (Malay: Persatuan Bolasepak Negeri Terengganu). In 1999, Dato' Haji Che Mat bin Jusoh, who was the Terengganu President at that time, was appointed to lead the team.

Both team have rivalry since both were located in East Coast Malaysia and both have almost similar dialect and culture. Both team were located in Malaysia East Coast and inferior in terms of success compare to the other East Coast neighbour, Pahang.

Derby match that involved a silverware,however only occur once, which is during the final of 2011 Malaysia FA Cup. Terengganu won the match 2-1, after extra time.

Honours

Kelantan have a more illustrious honours with 11 titles compare to Terengganu (7). Kelantan is also one of the only two Malaysian football teams of achieving The Treble,in 2012. The other is Kedah (2006/07,2007/08).
