Biography

Dyko is the Australian artist John Barrie Dyke. He grew up in Melbourne and has been living in Germany for several years. Dyko was formed in 2003 in Frankfurt am Main. The music and visuals are created in close collaboration with German born Christofer Jost.

Dyko often performs for high school and college German students around the world. Their lyrics tend to be relatively simple and easy for non-fluent German speakers to understand, making them popular for performances among this particular demographic.

In the past years Dyko has played over 170 concerts in 40 countries all around the world. Amongst others they have performed in Club B2 in Moscow, in Club 103 in Berlin, at the EXIT (festival) in Serbia as well as at the German-Chinese pop-festival in Nanjing. The Goethe Institut has been supporting Dyko since 2007 with regular tours in various countries, for example in Toronto, Canada, Estonia and Poland.

The music of Dyko has inspired Wolfgang Flür (ex-Kraftwerk) to play e-drums again for the recording of the Kraftwerk cover "Autobahn". Dyko’s method of creation is modelled on the Bauhaus concept of the "artist as a technician", is devoted to electro-pop and new wave and is profoundly and lastingly inspired by bands/artists such as Kraftwerk, The Human League, David Bowie, Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode and Iggy Pop.

The release of the second album "alles in ordnung? (everything in order?)" is planned for the beginning of 2010.
