Life and Work
Madhulika was born in Hyderabad, India. She had graduated with a B.Sc degree in Agriculture from Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, and later obtained a Doctorate in Environmental Plant Science from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas followed by a Master’s in Education (Curriculum and Instruction, Social and Leadership development).
Madhulika developed Arts based learning as part of her Master’s program at Texas A&M University. She returned to India and founded Adhya Educational Society and began to work with children in orphanages and government schools in Hyderabad. She developed several innovative teaching methodologies including using Origami and Tabla to teach Mathematics. Her English learning method using local language, culture and way of life has been listed among top 10 innovations in Asia and Africa by Results for Development Institute, Washington D.C.
Project Gift Compassion
Madhulika initiated Project Gift Compassion, a school outreach program. The project engages schools children, teachers and parents in exchanging a small gift prepared by a child from one strata of the society with another from a different community and background to build a bridge of compassion, hope, and trust for each other. As part of the project 25,000 school children participated in 2014 in Hyderabad. Project Gift Compassion spread to Mumbai and Delhi.
Art For A Cause
Madhulika initiated 'Art For A Cause' during Joyofgiving week. Art For A Cause is a platform for children in underserved environments to identify with causes that they are passionate about and raise funds for the cause. The children learn to donate using one's own creativity and talent, no matter what a person's limitations or socio - cultural background.
Public Installation as Pedagogy
Madhulika developed public installation as pedagogy and introduced it through 'Story of Light - A Spectacle'.
