Life

Leone emigrated from Italy with his family aged 11, and they settled in Mount Vernon, New York. Leone earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1979, an MS in industrial engineering from Columbia University in 1986, and an MS in management from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1988.

Prior to 1988, he worked at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Prime Computer in sales and sales management positions.

Leone joined Sequoia Capital in 1988, became a managing partner in 1996, and the global managing partner in 2012. He was ranked in the top 10 investors in the United States by Forbes Magazine. He led Sequoia's international expansion into China and India.

He was responsible for investments including ServiceNow, Aruba, Meraki, Rackspace, Netezza, Arbor/Hyperion, RingCentral and MedExpress. He sits on the board of PlanGrid, NuBank, Medallia, ZirMed, ActionIQ, Numerify, and Lattice Engines. On the Forbes 2016 list of billionaires, he was ranked #722 with a net worth of US$ 2.4 billion.

Leone is married to Patti Leone and the father of four children.
